Why Plant Churches?

Church planting has proven to be most effective way of helping people connect to God.

Everything from research conducted by the North America Missions Board to the letters of the Apostle Paul tell us that new churches are a way to meet the needs of the spiritually hungry.

Locally, this is where The Heartland Project comes in. The Heartland Project exists to empower church planters who can plant healthy, magnetic and multiplying churches — beginning in the Kansas City area and then moving into the Heartland of the United States — that will help connect people to God and subsequently change the world.   top

Why Plant Churches in the Heartland?

The Greater Kansas City area alone has a population of about 2 million. However, on any given Sunday 78 percent of the population does not attend an Orthodox Christian Church of any kind.

That means that this past weekend nearly 1.56 million people didn’t attend a Catholic, Mainline Protestant or Evangelical Protestant Church and thus probably don’t have a relationship with Christ.

More and more people are attracted to the Kansas City area, too. Kiplinger’s Magazine in its “50 Smartest Places to Live” ranked Kansas City No. 6 in its June 2006. CNN/Money in a 2006 list of “Best Places to Live” ranked three metro cities in its Top 50: Overland Park, Kan., No. 6; Olathe, Kan., No. 13 and Lee’s Summit, Mo., No. 44.

More than $3 billion of new construction or redevelopment is being invested in the area’s urban core.  top

How do you do it?

Our job is to develop relationships that will encourage people to pray, serve and give in order that new churches can be planted in the Heartland.

Along the way we’re continuing to identify underserved places to plant new churches and recruit qualified pastors and others to lead them.

We also will help church planters get the proper training and coaching as they grow a new church.  top

Affiliation?

Churches planted by The Heartland Project are affiliated with the Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ dedicated to the restoration of New Testament faith and practices.

This fellowship is made up of thousands of independent churches, linked by a common vision and cause. They operate seminaries, Christian colleges and numerous missions agencies and benevolent ministries.  top
